In Passing... posted by Laur3nce at 8:39 PM
quandry - today i got the cd of more songs about buildings and food - this and other recent (?) cd's are far too noxious to be played in company - and as our maisonette is quite small it's nigh on impossible to follow the boundaries of taste all the time - SO i thunk that maybe an mp3 player might be a good idea - my portable CD weighs a tonne and jumps when you say whoosh! or woo! so here is your chance to suggest which mp3 player i should buy - keep it cheap and shout it out - i'll send a mystery prize to the winner L3 posted by Laur3nce at 6:55 PM Monday, April 28, 2003

Toilet Paper Messaging It's hilarious! posted by Laur3nce at 10:51 PM
i drove 411 miles today, aah the delights of the M4 - nanas funeral which was a bit upsetting, mainly for robyn but she held up pretty well - the crematorium was in miles of open hills and quite serene in its modernist architecture i'm shattered so will resort to bullet pointed list if thats ok? o - a humanist service o - he had her name wrong o - we learned that nana was born in switzerland rather than as she had always maintained that she was polish (?) o - prosperos speach from the end of the tempest o - nice opera music o - he maintained that nana never complained about things that couldn't be changed when in truth nana was never happier than when she was complaining, in fact the last thing that she said to robyn was a complaint about the woman in the next bed speaking in welsh o - outside a mix of friends and relatives which was a bit awkward as there are hosts of family tensions going on - not least being the tension between me and robyns brother simon who i have not seen for a good few years after a fracas when we lived together in crofton park - on first sight it was a shock to see him - he took the service pretty bad too o - BILL! - poor bubba moog sat in the car all the way down there as we had no dog sitter to fall back on - then he saw simon and lou - then we got back in the car and drove all the way back home - maybe he thinks that simon has moved to wales (?) o - i suggested going for a pint after the service and we went to a hotel and had a drink in the bar - conversation was a bit strained but went a way towards reconciliation between me and simon o - we had hired a picasso people mover which was strange not least its dashboard which is digital and centrally mounted - with a digital speedo you can tell the difference between 29 and 30 miles per hour - and 79 and 80 - quite strange o - cigarettes, along with red wine, are "savoury" experiences o - channel four are showing "girl interrupted" interrupted by adverts and you can keep yer eggs posted by Laur3nce at 10:15 PM Wednesday, April 23, 2003

home again home again jiggerty jig - early start ro get all our shit together whilst managing 2 dogs and 2 cats into their rightful places - one of them our redoubtable bill eating grass in the garden like a little ginger cow - went to see nana in brecon then A407 down to M4 J32 then a quick blast and over the bridge in to england - what i want to know is why they charge you to get into wales and not on departure (something very screwy about that) so M4 and everyone cruising at 85-90 till reading then unto the south circular fighting for lanespace and roadworks till through catford (why is catford so horrible, asks beena) and then home - killer drive fatigue and even a glass of cider and the monotonous war rantings of news24 didn't see me off to snoozland - it turns out that nana is in a very bad way and will be in hospital for some time until they get her medicated properly - walking out of the hospital to start the journey it struck me that "following the ambivalence to causality" is an odd thing to say - well, odd for readers who don't know me - so HOME atlast posted by Laur3nce at 7:14 PM Thursday, April 03, 2003
so here we are still in wales - nana was so incapacitated last night that no threats or promises from beena could get her off the stool where she was planted - beena set the deadline of 11pm to get moving to bed - i figured it may be better coming from me so at 11 i started the cajoling/bullying/physical intervention that got nana up the stairs into her room where banana and cream awaited - this took nearly an hour - my resolve was severely tested but it worked - beena then got her into bed and we realized it was 1am by the time we sat down this morning beena checked on nana and found that she had fallen out of bed and had spent the night on the floor - a nurse was due so we decided there would be no trip out to roman forts and we would stay in all day and get drunk instead whilst still being able to help nana out as long as she stayed in bed slight problem (or why i drove into brecon three times today) no alcohol so i leapt in the car and drove 20 miles into brecon and shopped for wine and cider to be chilled and quaffed when i got back from the supermarket the nurses car blocked the driveway - no worries, at least she had turned up so i blocked her in and walked down to the house only to find said nurse on the telephone and beena pale as death and near to tears phone conversation ran - yes GP she is really bad - how bad - terrible bad - much worse so she phoned the ambulance (which may take two hours!) to get nana out of bed and onto a gurney ready for causality dept brecon here is how i drove once more into brecon - a short distance behind an ambulance - nana had perked up a little and was waving to us through the back window of the ambivalence - breifly waiting in a twee micro ER dept i was told nana had left her false teeth behind ! i took off back to defynnog and found the teeth in a mug - figuring they would be ok with just a run under the tap i took said dentures to sink and realized they were covered in mint leaf pulverizations from mint sauce with lamb - i had to scrape them with my fingernails and then i drove back to brecon once again - starting to know the route now made it fun pulling round heavy corners at 60 without screaming so there ends the day i drove to brecon three times we both feel awful that nana is banged up , beena far worse than i but at least we have the spoils of the first journey to amuse us posted by Laur3nce at 6:06 PM Wednesday, April 02, 2003
well here we are in wales - shout outs are not visible on this mac - yes mac! very worrying hoping that this posting works - we are certainly not on holiday - looking after nana is quite a task - she is displaying the behaviour of a "terrible two" but with a sassy sense of how to annoy without really entering conflict AND it all takes ages to happen - we have a list as long as your arm of what to do when and she's playing up on the fact that we don't quite know what's to happen next to get her own way - beena is suffering badly - a mixture of exasperation and compassion - tomorrow we plan to leave quite early as a nurse is coming to change dressings - there is a roman fort we will escape to and try to relax - later! posted by Laur3nce at 6:14 PM |
